Wines from Szekszárd and Etyek chosen to be the Wine of Budapest

For the first time the Municipality of the City of Budapest has called a tender for the title of the Wine of Budapest. There have been more than seventy incoming applications, from almost 40 wineries. The 2014 recognition has been given to the 2011 merlot of Szeleshát Winery in Szekszárd as well as the 2012 chardonnay of Nyakas Winery in Etyek.

The aim of the very first tender for the Wine of Budapest is to bring Hungarian wine closer to the capital city, and make it an organic whole, said Tamás Szentes during the announcement of results. The Deputy Mayor also emphasized that the City of Budapest wishes to create a tradition through this competition, which may bring development and a bigger reputation for Hungarian winemaking.

Besides the Wine of Budapest 2014 recognition, the jury has handed out 16 golden, 35 silver és 16 bronze degrees as well.
