This year the European Passengers Federation (EPF) has chosen to hold its annual conference in Budapest. The results in transport development and future plans of the capital city were presented by Deputy Mayor dr. Balázs Szeneczey.
- Since the new city leadership has taken office, Budapest puts a lot of effort into public transport development and satisfying passenger demands. Several flagship investments have already been completed, which have improved the transport infrastructure and the quality of public transport as well, said dr. Balázs Szeneczey. The deputy mayor in charge of city development also added that over the last years the capital city has introduced several creative developments, extraordinarily useful for the travelers, such as the so-called telebus, the MOL Bubi public bike sharing system, the extension of the P+R system, as well as the new passenger information centres. He emphasized that additional investments shall be inaugurated in the forthcoming years, as the Széll Kálmán tér will be renewed, the merging tram network of Buda will be completed, and Metro Line M3 will be refurbished from EU funds.
The EPF represents 35 transport NGOs of 20 countries from all around Europe, its member organizations are the largest and most influential European passenger interest-groups. The City and Hungary is represented in this federation by the Urban and Suburban Transit Association (VEKE), which has been involved in the improvement of public transport for 15 years.
