Asha, the elephant calf born in the Budapest Zoo on February 14th is now six months old. On this occasion the Zoo has prepared a celebration for the calf and its mother, Angele. From the Zoo staff they both have received a cake, suited to the taste of elephants, which contained cooked rice, several vegetables. Besides the fellow-workers have piece out its name using enticing delicacies, like corn-stalk and carrots.
Over the past six months from its birth, Asha has grown a lot, she has more than doubled her birth weight of 75kg. She is still playful, but is definitely more self-supporting, at their own runway she usually away from her mother. Nevertheless, Asha and Angele were greeted in the new Elephant hall, built in 2008. When they are not at their own runway, they are usually in the stall. Previously it was the Elephant house, which served as the stall for the calves and their mother. Now, that the calf has grown so much, the Elephant hall provides a more practical, spacious and more lightsome place for them.
