Persian leopard cub in the Zoo

Rare Persian leopard was born again in Budapest Zoo. The breeders, Cezi and Nadir have arrived to Budapest Zoo in 2003, over these years they have had together six cubs, Dante, the youngest of the cubs will be soon two-month-old.

The cub and its mother have spent their last two months in a special room, closed for the audience. Now the time has come to get the first vaccinations. Since the cub has to be held, which requires a temporary separation from its protecting mother, other interventions and examinations took place as well. The audience may see the cub and its mother at their own catwalk, next to the tigers. Since at this period the father is usually separated from the female and the cub, he may only use the catwalk at night.

The Persian leopard (Panthera pardus saxicolor), is the largest subspecies of leopard, or in other name panthers. It has origins not only in Iran, but also in Iraq, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Armenia as well. It is an endangered species, according to calculations their natural population is around two thousand.
