One year passed since Budapest has launched its public boat service

One year ago, on 1 July 2012 the public transport boats of BKK have started to operate along the Danube.  Over the last year, almost six hundred thousand passengers have used D11, D12 and D13 boat lines. The Centre for Budapest Transport is currently examining the possibilities of changing the fleet and building new ports.

Some important data based on the last year’s experience:

•         Number of boats operating on one day: 7
•         Total working hours of all boats: 21725 hours
•         Number of completed cruises in one year: 9000
•         Average daily number of passengers: 1700
•         Total number of passengers: 440,000
•         Average exploitation of boats: 53%
•         Number of single tickets purchased on the spot: (till 30 April 2013): 122,000
•         Number of boat service tickets purchased at ticket offices or onboard (since 1 May 2013): 20,000

For BKK, launching the regular public transport boat service on the Danube has been a substantial step, since over the last decades no such boats were operating in the frame of the capital city’s public transport system.
