The test run with passengers on board may start on Line M4 during the spring of 2014, said Mayor István Tarlós, at his press conference held at Kálvin tér metro station. The Mayor, together with media representatives, Zoltán Németh, leader of Fidesz faction in Budapest, and the management of BKK and BKV has travelled through the whole line, in the 7.5 km long and 6-meter diameter tunnel, from Kelenföld railway station to Keleti railway station. On Monday it was the first time, when the brand new Alstom trainsets has ridden the whole line with passengers on board.
The Mayor emphasized that the metro M4 will be a modern, attractive and safe mode of transport for passengers. The line will provide high quality service, will decrease the time of travel, will be cheap, comfortable, safe and reliable in operation. In all aspects it will meet the demands of the 21st century. All the stations will be accessible, next to the escalators there will be elevators helping people using wheelchairs, also passengers with baby carriages or those travelling with oversized luggage.
The line is 7.5 km long, it has 10 stations, the diameter of the tunnel is 5.2 meters. The trainsets consisting of four, altogether 80-meter-long, single-space cars. At Kálvin tér the line M4 is crossing over the current metro line, its exit is connected to the shopping-corridor of the existing underpass.
