In the frame of a ceremony, 1655 soldiers, involved in protection works, have gathered at Heroes’ Square where they have been greeted. Minister of Defence Csaba Hende and Mayor István Tarlós have made a speech, and handed a flag stripe to the vitéz Szurmay Sándor Garrison Brigade of Budapest.
“It was dangerous, but there was no catastrophe. And this is principally due to high-quality of the accomplished work, as well as the high human quality. The citizens of Hungary, Budapest, the villages and towns has taken actions against the flooding together”, said István Tarlós. On behalf of the citizens of Budapest, the Mayor has thanked everyone, who has been involved in the tasks of the last weeks.
8500 members of the national defence have placed more than 1 million sandbags during the flood protection works.
