After only one and a half year of preparations, the country’s first rockmuseum, the Hungarian Rock Hall of Fame was opened on 6th February, in the RaM Colosseum located in the 13th district. The permanent exhibition presents Hungarian rock music from the 60’s, exhibiting posters, photographs, instruments, and relics from that times. Mayor István Tarlós and József Tóth, the Mayor of 13th District of Budapest have made speeches at the opening ceremony.
I was born on 1948, and like others present here, I have grown up on this musical world introduced through this Rockmuseum. After the world of the 50’s there has been a musical boost in the 60’s and once a day has come in the second half of the decade, when something has started to decay. At that time a generation, which we all loved, has grown up in Hungary, and suddenly we also had rock bands that we could admire, recalled István Tarlós telling about the era, when Hungarian rock music was born, together with Illés, Omega, and the Metró band. He added that he himself was a great fan of the music of 60’s, he also has a collection of almost 400 discs, where all the important albums and singles of that era can be found.
One of the museum’s initiators, radio presenter László B. Tóth, mentioned that the museum pays tribute to the last fifty years of Hungarian rock music filling an 810 sqm area. From 8th February the Rockmuseum is open to the public free of charge on Saturdays and Sundays, in the Radnóti Miklós Community Centre (RaM Colosseum) in the 13th district.
