More than fifty metropolises were represented at the Smart Cities conference held on June 5-6 in Budapest. Deputy Mayor Gábor Bagdy has attended the event as a guest speaker.
“Budapest has done a lot during the last years in order to make the city more environmentally friendly.” There have been new green areas created, the out-of-date city lighting has been renewed using energy-efficient technology, and there are several projects in progress, which aim at modernizing the city center, said Gábor Bagdy. The Deputy Mayor for Finance among the many green investments has emphasized the one at the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant, due to which now only treated water flows back into the Danube.
The main aim of the Smart Cities platform is to speed up the spread of energy-efficient technologies in metropolitan areas. The platform also supports the effort of the European Union, aiming at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80%, by 2050.
