From now on, a new, modern building will host the Budapest Music Center Hungarian Music Information Center (BMC), the worldwide known classical music and jazz institution of the capital city. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and BMC Director László Gőz have inaugurated the building. During the ceremony Mayor István Tarlós has made a speech.
"People have dreams and they have results. There are a few outstanding personalities, who could realize their plans, as László Gőz did. It only took a year to build up this center, which we are now inaugurating within the frame of Budapest Spring Festival. Not only a center has been created, the place will be home to Eötvös Péter Foundation, a few studios and a music library”, emphasized István Tarlós. The Mayor also added that the capital city will continue to support initiatives, which create new community places.
The prime aim of BMC, established in 1996, was to create a musical-information centre, which collects data of Hungarian classical, jazz and contemporary music, and makes it easy to access on an international scale as well. The information centre’s constantly improving internet-based music database stores 10,500 compositions of 3,000 artists. Its music library can be accessed free of charge, storing 90,000 books, sheet music and records.
