The emblem of the 2024 Budapest Olympic and Paralympic Bid has been presented to the public on Gellért Hill. At the ceremony Mayor István Tarlós, Government Commissioner for Hungary' Olympic Bid Balázs Fürjes, Hungarian Olympic Committee chairman Zsolt Borkai, and International Olympic Committee member Pál Schmitt have together unveiled the logo, which has been chosen through an open tender.
The defining elements of the Budapest Bid emblem are the Liberty statue (Szabadságszobor), the water and the Olympic rings, however the latter is not presented in the original way, but rather in a rethought way. The symbol wishes to refer to the fresher, more youthful and more creative Olympic concept. The logo was designed by Graphasel, a design studio of young people, their work has been chosen by a professional jury from 200 applications.
The Olympics, the sport, and freedom are the key-words, which may bend all members of our nation. The Olympics can be our collective issue, for which we could fight and join our efforts. It could be a similar experience as the one is 1956, when the Hungarian society put away the conflicts, and acted in favour of a great aim, said Mayor István Tarlós at the event.
He added that taking this region, Budapest is developing outstandingly, a diverse capital of the Hungarian nation, in which sorts have a advantaged place. In 2015 one of the stadiums of Budapest were chosen the best in the world, several European and world championships were and will be organized here, and the 2017 FINA World Aquatics Championships is also an event, which raises a great hope, especially when considering the fact that the preparations are making very good process.
The Mayor emphasized that in case of Budapest the venues of both the World Aquatics Championships and the Olympics, will perfectly match the city's built and natural capabilities: the Danube, being the pulse connecting the capital city and the surroundings, would become one of the main scenes of the Olympics, providing a unique atmosphere for the world's most prestigious sports events.
Mayor István Tarlós emphasized that through the realization of the Olympic investments and the postgames utilization of sports venues, we will create for both the Olympic family and Hungary, but Budapest in particular, a valuable and sustainable heritage. Beyond the development of urban and sport infrastructure, the Olympics enlivens the Hungarian economy, creates new workplaces, promotes healthy lifestyle, guarantees the long-term development of Budapest as well as the country. A city leader shall be satisfied for two reasons: on the one hand for the sports success and city promotion opportunity, and on the other side for all new, remaining developments, he added.
He recalled that in 2014 the Agenda 2020 has created a new opportunity for middle-sized cities. "We shall not make ridiculously hasty statements, the exaggerated political combats are just too early. Today we do not have the right to host the Olympics in our pocket, however, we have to believe in our success and we have to work on it, humbly, but devotedly". He urged for joint action and he also emphasized that Budapest can only win, even just with the bid itself.
