The two-months-old lion cubs of the Budapest Zoo have received names on a special event. The then and current stars of the musical “Cats” have chosen the names for the rare Indian lions.
The cubs were born on 15 February, however till now there was no opportunity to give them names, since their gender could not be undisputedly identified. In order to do so, someone has to take hold of them and examine them, however Shirwane, the mother lion would of course not allow that. Two months after their birth, they have to be examined anyway so that the due vaccination could be done.
The four cubs were separated from their mother for about half an hour. First the gender identification of the lion cubs took place, therefore we know now that two of them are females, and two of them males.
The lion cubs have got the names: Surina (goddess), Salima (happy), Sinha (hero) és Sachin (the substance). The audience can visit the cubs and their mother in the Indian house of the Zoo.
