Thermal water is the greatest natural treasure of Budapest, baths are its built, centuries old heritage, and thermal tourism is its economic breakthrough opportunity. The city must obtain back its international prestige, once already gained earlier in the 1930s with the recognition „City of Spas” – said István Tarlós, Mayor of Budapest, at the handover ceremony of the renovated Lukács Thermal Bath on Friday.
The monumental reconstruction cost almost one and a half billion forint, with 70% financed by EU funds, while the remaining part was provided by the Budapest Thermal Baths and Hot Springs Ltd.
Part of the facade has been renovated, wires and the entire electrical control system have been replaced, even an industrial monument, an old electric switch box from the 1950s has been restored. During the reconstruction works, a new wellness section, sauna world, fitness room, gym and playground have been developed.
