In times of economic crisis, when families, communities, countries face impoverishment, it is essential to express spiritual togetherness and solidarity, stressed István Tarlós at a professional conference. He reminded that in 2010 citizens have chosen values-based politics, thus since then the leadership of the city manages public goods differently. Within value-based politics, putting people in the middle, a great effort was made to help indigent people; to aim is to provide decent social services and conditions of everyday life for the poorest of the society.
The Mayor emphasized that the city’s management can present significant achievements in the field of social affairs, which mark the success of the last two years. The concepts on people with autism as well as social affairs have been completed, and not only have been supported by the opposition, but also have achieved high recognition of professionals.
The development of the municipality’s social institutions has been unequalled in the country: there have been 1200 new places created, and six new institutions were handed over. Compensating two decades of malpractice, a service system for homeless people has been built up and organized, which is able to provide appropriate services for everyone, no one will have to stay on the streets or even die due to lack of free places or eligible treatment.
The Mayor has also emphasized that the Municipality of the City of Budapest is currently the largest and most successful maintainer of social institutions: in 22 of its institutions 4000 people are employed, who take care of 10,000 people.
