Lights and shadows, the thousand-year history of the capital city, this is the title of the exhibition, which can be seen from 30th November in the Budapest History Museum. The exhibition has been inaugurated by Mayor István Tarlós and Director-General dr. András Bodó.
“A section of one thousand year can be seen here. It appears in objects, illustrations, scale models, art treasures, photographs, and paintings. The basic concept of the exhibition is determined by the view of the city, which was destroyed and then rebuilt many times through hundreds of years, said István Tarlós in his speech.
The exhibition of curators Roland Perényi and András Végh reviews the history of Budapest through 1000 art pieces placed on the building’s first floor, taking up over 900 sqm. The exhibition’s basic concept, as the title Lights and Shadows reflects, is determined by the picture of a city being destroyed and then always rebuilt over the centuries. Technical devices play an important role in this interactive exhibition: apart from displays, digital photo frames, and earphones, some touchscreen monitors have also been placed, which help visitors to find excavation fields near their places of residence or photographs of previous buildings standing there.
