A giraffe cub was born at Budapest Zoo. A few hours after its birth, the baby giraffe was already standing on its feet, and since then is regularly fed. The cub is currently in its own “labour room” with its mother Sandra, in one of the halls of Savanna House. Since during the first days the cub needs to rest, the audience could not visit the newcomer yet.
The Rotschild’s giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) were named after the well-known banker Walter Rotschild (1868-1937). They are endangered ungulates, there are only 700 of them in the wild. In all zoos of the world there are about 450 Rotschild giraffes.
