Cooperation agreement between the City of Budapest and Pest County

The Municipality of the City of Budapest and the Municipality of Pest County have signed a cooperation agreement in order to turn the region into one of the most competitive, most livable centre of Central-Europe. The agreement was signed by Deputy Mayor Balázs Szeneczey and Lajos Szűcs, Chairman of the Assembly of Pest County.

“The development of Budapest cannot be divided from the development of the suburbia and the surrounding areas in the broader sense. Our cohabitation is characterized by interdependence, our roads, railways, public utility pipes do not end at the city boundaries”, said Balázs Szeneczey. The Deputy Mayor for City Development also added that this good partnership will provide the region with the opportunity to gain more funds from the HUF 7,300 billion EU subsidy, available in the 2014-2020 period. The region’s will development will therefore speed up.

Budapest and its surrounding suburbia consists of at least 80 settlements. Its population altogether has reached 3 million, it means that every third citizen of the country lives in this region, or at least in the surrounding areas.
