Budapest has hosted a UN Youth conference

400 students from 20 countries have participated in the Budapest International Model United Nations, the BIMUN conference. The aim of this international conference, organized by Eötvös József Secondary School, was to simulate the work of UN by the youth, and through this to introduce new cultures and standpoints to each other. Deputy Mayor Miklós Csomós has attended the opening ceremony.

“We Hungarians, live in democracy only since 1990. In order secure peace and freedom in the world, one of the most important conditions is help people understand each other and cooperate. BIMUN fully meets this condition. Here, everything is ensured, the participants can get acquainted with each other, experience other cultures, other views by cooperating in the meantime. Acceptance of others is crucial, so that the students, who have gathered here, will stand up for peace, democracy, and dignity of the human being”, said Miklós Csomós.

Over the last decades the popularity of Model United Nations has constantly increased, today hundreds of conferences are organized year by year, with a few million participants. Several capital cities have hosted these events, mostly in the United States of America and Europe.
