The organization of the games is the guarantee for the realization of the Budapest city development plans, said Balázs Fürjes, Government Commissioner for Hungary's Olympic Bid at the conference on the impacts of the application and a possible organization of the games. Mayor István Tarlós has emphasized during the discussions that from his viewpoint as the mayor, the idea of Budapest Olympics provides a great pleasure, because that way the city is "forced" to conduct infrastructural investments, which are already necessary.
István Tarlós has added that a lot will be built and will stay in Budapest, which on the long term serves primarily the interest of local citizens. The Olympics may bring extra revenues for the state budget, and would increase the GDP, the tourism, the competitiveness of the city and the country, and last but not least would strengthen the recognition and good reputation of Budapest and Hungary, stated the Mayor. Budapest is capable of hosting the event, which may be a "useful and beneficial" undertaking with a "priceless emotional value". We shall not get too self-confident, but let's show that jointly we are able to win the right of organization, and host the Olympics as well as the Paralympics, said István Tarlós.
