The Municipality of Budapest has started to operate the longest tram vehicles in the world, the CAF URBOS 3/9 type vehicles along line Nr. 1. The first tram will be followed by 11 more before summer. The producer CAF has delivered eleven out of the twelve pieces, the last one arrives to Budapest in April. These vehicles are currently completing their test runs in order to obtain the operation permits, so that at the end of the delivery procedures and during summer the new vehicles can start operating along the newly elongated line of tram Nr. 1.
CAF has obtained the type license for the long vehicles as well as the operation permits of the vehicles already delivered, within the contractual deadline. The CAF URBOS 3/9 is a world record holder, with its 55,9m length it is the longest tram in the world. The interior of the vehicles is fully in compliance with the modern demands, as these are low-floor, air-conditioned, single-space trams, all seats are easily accessible.
