Upon the initiative of President János Áder the General Assembly of Budapest has unanimously supported that the City of Budapest joins the global campaign against climate change of former US Vice President Al Gore.
We share a common responsibility in speaking about the issue of climate change and acting against it, said President János Áder at the meeting of the Budapest General Assembly. The President has thanked Mayor István Tarlós, the first among the officials of the City of Budapest to join this global campaign on climate protection, and has also requested the Budapest General Assembly to do so. The President has emphasized that climate protection is not only about the conservation of nature and environmentalism, “but also it is the protection of our own life”. He added that according to the study on global warming’s expected impacts, prepared by the UN Scientific Advisory Board, due to the climate change we might face more extreme weather conditions, drought, floods, melting of the ice caps, see level rise, difficulties in food production and supply, lack of drinking water, and thereupon growing migration as well as wars for water.
The aim of the campaign is to motivate the participants of the UN conference on climate change held this December in Paris, as well as the leaders of countries with the highest carbon dioxide emissions, in taking up actions.
