On Monday, 7 December the agreement of cooperation on the Olympics between the Hungarian Olympic Committee and the Municipality of Budapest has been signed at the City Hall.

Budapest and Hungary face stirring two years, said Mayor István Tarlós at the signing ceremony. He added that in the summer of 2017 Budapest will be the host of the aquatics world championships, and not much later, in the autumn of 2017 the International Olympic Committee will choose in Lime the host city of the 2024 Olympics. “We will have no chance to relax”, said the mayor. István Tarlós has added that the IOC has adopted its Agenda 2020 program in the support of more economic Olympics, promoting cheaper and returnable games, temporary facilities, which can be dismantled, preferring games organized in several cities and even cross-border organization. – The new concept is favourable for Central European cities, and especially for Budapest, emphasized the mayor.

The success of the application of Budapest can be established by the opportunity of organizing economic Olympics, the development course of Hungary till 2020 and that it fits into the development plans of the capital, said government commissioner Balázs Fürjes. He emphasized that Budapest is competing cities, like Los Angeles, Rome, Paris, which have already organized Olympics and would  be capable of hosting the event without the help of the Agenda 2020. Budapest is a probable winner, he added, because it can make the reform of the economic Olympics work. He also said that the 24-member Board of Olympic Patrons, the to be created Budapest 2024 Sportsman Committee, as well as the Budapest 2024 Nonprofit Plc., jointly established by the Hungarian Olympic Committee and the Municipality, are all working on the success of the application.
