The reconstruction of the tram tunnel below the Buda side bridge-head of Lánchíd, which has started in March 2015, has now come to an end, and as a result of it now all types of trams, running along the new interconnected tram network can pass through the tunnel.
Since 14 March 2016 tram lines 19 and 41 are operating on their entire tracks, the previous one terminates at Kelenföld railway station and metro station, the latter one terminates at Kamaraerdei Ifjúsági Park, and both lines depart from Óbuda, the Bécsi út/Vörösvári út terminal.
Thanks to the precise planning and organization, the reconstruction of the tunnel below the Buda side bridge-head of Lánchíd did not disturb the continuous traffic of Clark Adam square and the bridge itself. The tunnel became wider, and the former steel pillars standing in the middle of this tunnel, had been dismantled. New buttress structures and buttress covers have been built along the southern end of the tunnel, the tram track has been renewed and re-planned, the overhead cables, the street lighting, the pedestrian walkways and barriers have also been renewed, just as the park near the track.
This summer the reconstruction of tram platforms at stations Alkotás út, Bartók Béla út, a Fehérvári út and Villányi út will start with the aim of creating step-free tram lines. During the reconstructions additional works will be conducted in order to modernize the tracks and railroad switches.
